*President Biden Ends Re-election Bid, Endorses VP Harris as New Presidential Candidate With just over three months before the General Election, President Joe Biden withdrew from the 2024 Presidential campaign and endorsed his Vice-President, Kamala Harris for the presidency. The Democratic National Convention will take place on August 19-22 in Chicago and will focus on nominating a new pair of candidates to run against former President Donald Trump who is the Republican Party’s 2024 presidential nominee.
*Branch Encourages Citizens to Review Project 2025 The Project 2025 plan is a 920-page proposal, created by dozens of conservative organizations and leaders, led by the Heritage Foundation, calls for reshaping the entire federal government under the next “conservative president” to answer almost exclusively to the president, with little to no real Congressional oversight and a federal court system that simply rubber stamps the conservative administration’s policies.
The NAACP believes if Project 2025 goes into effect, it will hurt all Americans, but the consequences would be even more severe for Black Americans and other communities of color for generations to come.
*Spotsylvania School Board Names First African American Schools Superintendent Dr. Clint M. Mitchell will begin serving as the new superintendent of the school division on August 1. Dr. Mitchell is a career educator, who most recently served as superintendent of the Colonial Beach Public Schools. He has also served as a principal in both the Fairfax County Public Schools as well as a principal, assistant principal, and teacher in the Prince William County Public Schools. Dr. Mitchell has previously served as an adjunct professor at James Madison University.
