*Repost: The Branch is Concerned About The Future of Public Education in The County!  Spotsylvania County Public School has undergone dramatic transitions over the past year. The highly qualified, former superintendent was terminated leaving the district without a superintendent since January. Additionally, several qualified teachers, counselors, division administrators and their staff no longer work for the district. This lapse in leadership deeply concerns the Spotsylvania NAACP, as the educational development of Spotsylvania’s children has been potentially compromised. The organization’s immediate concerns are further exacerbated by the hiring of the incoming superintendent with no formal training in educational leadership or practical experience at the elementary through secondary grade levels. The NAACP demands students receive a top notch and world class education and plans to meet with the new superintendent to discuss our concerns in the very near future. For more information and to express your concerns contact branch at 540-847-7637.

*The Results of the Branch Election In The November Election Are as follows: President Pastor Moe Petway; Vice President Alana Coats; Secretary Dina Vile and Treasurer Pastor Randy Phillips.

*Spotsylvania Board of Supervisors Submitted a Request to the State Election Commission to Reduce Early Voting Days from 45 days to 14 days!

*Branch Will Conduct a Christmas Social and Fund Raiser Event on December 10, 2022, at 4:00 p.m. at the River Club Church! The Spotsylvania NAACP will conduct a fun filled Holiday event. This event will be a time to relax and enjoy an afternoon of fun as well as an opportunity to contribute to an organization that works to ensure equality, fairness and justice is afforded to all. The event will also recognize some frontline individuals who’s job put them where the rubber meets the road. For more details and tickets, please visit our website at spotsylvanianaacp.org or call 540-847-7637.

*Branch Encourages Citizens To Get Involved In Their State & Local Governments Operations! As we reflect on the great accomplishments and achievements of the NAACP over the past 113 years, we should never forget those who suffered and made sacrifices so that we can have a chance to succeed. However, it should be noted that many of these great accomplishments begin at the local and state levels of governments. Again, State and Local governments are   drafting legislation and laws to limit voting access. Many of the laws are designed to restrict, deter, and even prohibit the ability of eligible voters in specific groups to cast their ballot. Please take note to the action most recently taken by our own local governing body to limit the opportunity to vote. The Spotsylvania governing body submitted a recommendation to the Election Commission requesting that Spotsylvania citizen early voting opportunities be reduced.  Not only congress still has not passed the voting protection bill. So, your involvement and participation is desperately needed. The NAACP is urging everyone especially people of color to pay attention, monitor, and take action against the efforts taking place to restrict, limit or prohibit people the opportunity to vote. For more information contact Mr. Petway at 540-847-7637.
