*UVA, OTHERS NOW TUITION-FREE FOR VA. FAMILIES MAKING UNDER $100K
*ELECTION 2024: AMERICAN DEMOCRACY IS AT STAKE!
*What Would Dr. King Think? As we prepare to celebrate the legacy of a man who literally gave his life for the cause of freedom, equality, and justice for all, it is important to reflect on how the late Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., would view the situation the African American community as well as our nation is facing today. On what would be his 94th birthday, what would Dr. King think about the so-called leaders of today, as reactionary state legislators and the courts strip away voting rights, civil rights, and economic rights? We cannot afford to sit idly by, not only because of Dr. King’s legacy, but also because of our own. During this time of remembrance, we must channel Dr. King’s spirit of service to humanity and continue to fight for the same ideals he did. So, those who come behind us 55 years from now, can finally say they have finally overcome the battles we have endured since the beginning of this nation. How are you prepared to honor Dr. King’s legacy with your service? If you want to join the Spotsy Branch NAACP in our efforts, please contact Mr. Petway at (540) 847-7637.
*UVA, Other Va. Public Universities OfferTuition-Free Education to Families Making Under
$100K. The University of Virginia in Charlottesville is one of the latest to announce that Virginia students coming from households earning less than $100,000 per year will no longer
have to pay tuition and fees. The University will also cover the housing and dining expenses for students coming from families earning less than $50,000. The UVA Board of Visitors
voted to adjust the income limits upward from $80,000 and $40,000, respectively, because of generous gifts from philanthropic sources. Other Virginia public universities have expanded their programs partially due to money appropriated by the Virginia General Assembly in 2023 to assist low- and middle-income families with rising college costs. If you meet these income criteria and have a child who is planning to attend college in the coming years, please contact the universities you are interested in for more information about
their scholarship and grant programs.
