*Repost: This Issue is That Important! Our Voting Rights Are Under Attack By State & Local Governments Across the Country! Throughout America State Houses of Representatives are drafting legislation and laws to limit voting access. Many of the laws are designed to restrict, deter, and even prohibit the ability of eligible voters in specific groups to cast their ballot. The State of Georgia has taken the lead in this effort to reduce the ability for people to vote. State GOP politicians have passed laws that will limit voting places, reduce time to vote and even make it a crime to serve drinks or food to voters in long lines. Finally, Georgia legislatures passed a law that allows them to replace the election of state chair with an appointed office, that is to be appointed by the Republican-led legislature. The NAACP is urging all people especially people of color to pay attention, monitor, and take action against the efforts taking place to restrict, limit or prohibit people the opportunity to vote.  A high price has already been paid for us to just watch states try to take us backwards.

*We Must Pressure Our Legislations to Counter State Voter Suppression Activities! State based suppressive voter laws have now been enacted in 14 states since February. It is unconscionable that the basis of our democracy – the VOTE, continues to be under attack by Republican controlled state houses. Counter measures on a federal level, specifically the John Lewis Voting Rights Act, have passed the House and must be passed by the Senate. Passing the Act would strengthen voting rights by expanding and strengthening the governments’ ability to respond to voting discrimination by the states and would restore protections of the Act and reinstitute enforcement measures, which was debilitated in 2013 by politically influenced Supreme Court. WE MUST REMAIN VIGILANT!
