BRANCH JOINS EFFORTS TO ADDRESS LIVING CONDTIONS AT THE REGIONAL JAIL!
*Branch Joins the Interfaith Action for Human Rights, FailSafe-ERA and Stafford NAACP in Forming a Coalition to Address Treatment and Living Conditions at the Rappahannock Regional Jail!
The name of the coalition is “Human Rights Coalition for the Rappahannock Regional Jail” Its mission is to provide an avenue which affords jail management, inmates, and civil rights organizations an opportunity to address concerns and issues regarding treatment and living conditions at the jail. We believe that by having an avenue for residents incarcerated in jail to address their issues and concerns will create an environment where inmates will feel that their concerns are being heard. Also, by having an outside civil/human rights organization as an integral part of the communication between inmates and jail, management can serve as a buffer and possibly a de-escalation tool for better communication. For more information or interested contact Mr. Petway at 540-847-7637.
*Branch Plans to Conduct a Membership Campaign this Year! The membership chair submitted a proposal to conduct a membership campaign to increase membership by 25% this year. You can become a subscribing lifetime member by paying a minimum of $75.00 a year for a total of $750 in 10 years (you can pay as much as you like until $750 is reached), then youare done paying unless you want to pursue a higher lifetime membership status (see Lifetime Membership designations).
*Branch Black History Month Program Highlighted Young People and Was a Great Success! The Black History Month program conducted on February 20, 2021 featured a series of events addressing African Americans history but placed emphasis on young people’s talent and skills. The following is a poem presented by: . Shelby Campbell
(a senior at Riverbend HS):
Ode to Her
of Her I am most proud
of all that She has been through
Her accomplishments speak out loud
through death, depression, and despair
She has struggled rightfully so
but risen beyond her struggles
like a sun rises melting snow
Ode to Her
Her strength, competence, and drive
everything about Her
makes Her the sexiest alive
Through victory and success
She has remained humble, but no longer
ode to me
for I willed my weakness to make me stronger
