*BRANCH WILL HOST AN IN-PRESON CHRISTMAS SOCIAL FOR ITS MEMBERS AT ITS REGULAR MONTHLY MEETING ON THURSDAY, DECEMBER 2, AT 7PM!    This is a free event, and all Spotsylvania NAACP members are encouraged to attend. This meeting is an opportunity to meet fellow members in the struggle as well as the branch leadership. The branch will also recognize many of the young adults that participated in the branches’ Black History program, Annual Banquet and other deserving members.  The event will be held at the River Club Church 10835 Tidewater Trail Fredericksburg, VA 22408.

*CONGRESS STILL HAS NOT PASSED THE VOTING PROTECTION LAW! Throughout America State Houses of Representatives are drafting legislation and laws to limit voting access. Many of the laws are designed to restrict, deter, and even prohibit the ability of eligible voters in specific groups to cast their ballot. The State of Georgia has taken the lead in this effort to reduce the ability for people to vote. State GOP politicians have passed laws that will limit voting places, reduce time to vote and even make it a crime to serve drinks or food to voters in long lines. Finally, Georgia legislatures passed a law that allows them to replace the election of state chair with an appointed officer, that is to be appointed by the Republican-led legislature. The NAACP is urging everyone especially people of color to pay attention, monitor, and take action against the efforts taking place to restrict, limit or prohibit people the opportunity to vote.

*Branch Continues to Address Diversity & Inclusion at the Rappahannock Regional Jail and is pursuing the establishment of a Citizen Oversite Board. Note: Please review July, August & September Newsletters for more details. For more information call 540-847-7637.

*BRANCH RECOGNIZED & HONORED UNSUNG HEROES DURING ITS ANNUAL FREEDOM FUND VIRTUAL PROGRAM! The Spotsylvania NAACP recognized and honored local “unsung heroes” during its Freedom Fund Program on October 9, 2021. These heroes are people in our community that makes things happen. These courageous people have been in the background, in the corner or is never seen. However, they are the glue that keeps things together, moving and operating. They never ask nor seek to be recognized. They are usually the first in and last out, the handyman or handywoman, janitor, maid, the painter, repairer, bulb changer, carpenter, van driver, grass cutter, grave digger, and all-around fixer, you name it, they are it, without the fanfare or glory. The following is a list of the “unsung heroes” we recognized:

Anita Roberson

Anita is a native of the area and is prior military officer. For the past 25 years she has been instrumental in the creation and implementation of many programs within the NAACP as secretary, the branch Communication chairperson, Freedom Fund chairperson and Community Coordinator. She was instrumental in the creation of the Branch’s Rites of Passage for Young Men.
